CROSSWORD BY MERL REAGLE

"Columbus, the Game"

NOTE: HOW TO PLAY: Three famous names associated with Christopher Columbus are concealed multiple times on this page, and in keeping with 1492, there are 14 of one, 9 of another, and 2 of the longest one. Each concealed name occurs as a straight-line unit with no turns and no intervening letters BUT some are backward, some "straddle" spaces (in the clues), two "straddle" black squares, and two are diagonal (in the grid). (Since this is the online version, many clues break by necessity onto two or more lines, but for the purposes of this puzzle, ASSUME EVERY CLUE IS JUST ONE CONTINUOUS LINE.) If you can "discover" all 25 names you could win a fabulous 73 Across! (Not really, but you‘d definitely deserve it!) Hint: The 25th (and hardest to find) word is hidden vertically somewhere. --MR
